Director's message

Director’s Message
I am deeply honored to be elected as the 4th Director of the Asia-Pacific Society of Thyroid Surgery (APTS) following the 3rd Director. I fully recognize that this role carries a profound responsibility, and I accept it with both humility and determination. Building upon the remarkable legacy established by my predecessors, including Hiroya Kitano and Feng-Yu Chiang, I will dedicate myself to further advancing the mission and global impact of APTS.
Since its establishment in 2014, APTS has grown into a truly international and influential society, bringing together leading experts and pioneers in thyroid surgery across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. The fundamental mission of APTS—to provide a collaborative platform that transcends specialties and fosters both scientific excellence and professional friendship—remains as relevant today as ever.
Over the past decade, APTS has experienced remarkable growth in both scale and academic influence. As of April 2026, our Society has expanded to include more than 1,570 active members from over 51 countries, reflecting its strong global presence. Each APTS Congress has been a testament to the Society’s vitality, characterized by outstanding scientific programs, active participation, and meaningful academic exchange. These achievements have been made possible through the unwavering dedication and collaboration of our members. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all who have contributed to the success of APTS.
As we enter a new chapter, APTS stands at an important crossroads. Rapid advancements in surgical technology—including remote-access approaches, intraoperative neural monitoring, parathyroid detection method, and emerging artificial intelligence—are transforming the field of thyroid surgery. In this evolving landscape, APTS must continue to lead by fostering innovation, promoting high-quality education, and strengthening international collaboration.
During my term as Director, I will focus on several key priorities, including further strengthening the global network and academic leadership of APTS, enhancing educational programs and training opportunities for the next generation, promoting evidence-based practice and high-quality research, and expanding multidisciplinary and international collaboration.
Together with all members of APTS, I will work as one team to achieve these goals and to ensure the continued growth and excellence of our Society.
I sincerely ask for your continued support, active participation, and collaboration as we move forward together toward an even brighter future for APTS.
Sincerely,
April 2026

Kyung Tae
